Craft Group
For the past 10 years, an ever increasing group of ladies have been meeting at our Parish Hall every Thursday morning. Sponsored by the Anglican Church Women, this group has a ministry of fellowship, friendship, of laughter, of comfort and of prayer. They also provide a major outreach into our community. While they work at a wide variety of crafts all in support of our Church's outreach. They take time to learn of each other's week, to have a cup of tea as well as enjoying a lunch together (sometimes brown bag and sometimes cooked that day).
One of the first projects they undertook was creating many of the angels that now decorate our Angel Tree every Christmas. This Tree decorates our Church every Advent/Christmas season. One of the major outreach projects they have undertaken, though, is knitted Prayer Shawls and Prayer Blankets. To date, they have knit over 300 of these precious gifts, each lovingly presented in Church to be blessed and then given to someone who has a definite need to be upheld in prayer. What is perhaps the most heartwarming, is that these same ladies often also deliver this token of our prayer life to those in need - whether in hospital, at Palliative Care, shut-in at home because of age or illness, or recovering from an accident or a sickness. These gifts are delivered with this prayer: "Guided by God's love for us, this shawl is knit for you, Healing strength and peace to bless your spirit true, Wrap yourself in warmth and love, entwined in every stitch, Prayers said to please, heal, mend and enrich. Father, Son and Holy Spirit, intoned throughout this shawl True blessings knit within it, Best wishes for us all. May this Prayer Shawl enfold you in Warmth, Comfort, Healing and Peace." |
